Tassos Isaac: His murder by the gray wolves

Article by Yannis Golias

Just like today, Wednesday, and back then, on August 14, 1996, in Paralimni, Cyprus, the birthplace of Tassos Isaac,
his funeral is held,
following his murder three days earlier by the Gray Wolves on the Green Line in Cyprus
(I wrote about this in detail the day before yesterday)
………………………………………..
A tragic figure at the ceremony was his wife, who was eight months pregnant.
………………………………………..
As you can imagine, the atmosphere is electric
………………………………………..
As soon as the funeral ended, a cousin of the murdered Tassos,
the 26-year-old, Solomos Solomou,
It begins with a group of Greek Cypriots heading toward the roadblock at Deryneia,
at the spot where Tasos was murdered, to lay wreaths and flowers
………………………………………..
Except that the "gray wolves" that the Turkish government had recruited and transported to Cyprus,
those who had murdered Tasos Isaac,
They remained at the scene, ready for another bloodbath
………………………………………..
The Greek Cypriots are approaching, and the gray wolves are starting a stone-throwing battle
………………………………………..
the area is turning into a battlefield
………………………………………..
At some point, Tassos's cousin,
Solomos Solomou,
He breaks away from the blue-helmeted soldiers, enters the no-man's-land,
He reaches the Turkish flagpole and begins climbing the pole to take it down
………………………………………..
Turkish snipers from the Turkish outpost across the way shot him
and Solomos Solomos falls dead, struck by a bullet in the neck.
………………………………………..
The shooting then continued toward the protesters, leaving several people injured
………………………………………..
Later,
A special task force from the Famagusta Police Department, following an investigation,
They managed to identify some of the killers of Solomos Solomos
and issue international arrest warrants.
………………………………………..
However,
None of the murderers were arrested,
that the same thing happened, in other words, with the murderers of Tassos Isaac
………………………………………..
A few days later, Turkish Cypriot newspapers reported
that
the president of the pseudo-state, Rauf Denktash,
welcomed a group of about 150 members of the organization
“Gray Wolves”
whom he honored and thanked.
………………………………………..
P.S. About six months later, in the winter of 1996, Dimitris Mitropanos and Thanos Mikroutsikos released the album «Stou aiona tin paranga.»

So, this album also includes a song by Alkis Alkaios,
«Always Smiling»
which was inspired by the murder of Solomos

Indeed,
In the CD booklet, below the song title, Alcaeus mentions it along with the other two:
«Isaac, Solomos, and Marinos the Martyrs.».

Those who have become friends with Death,
with a cigarette hanging from their lips,
lost in their wild dreams,
always smiling, always smiling,
always smiling and being smiled at
