In a letter of protest communicated to the media, the Women's Association of Mani, expresses its opposition to the way the life of Maniates is presented in the daily TV series «The Land of the Olive».
In particular, the Association's letter reads as follows:
«Following complaints from viewers and members of our Association who watched the serial «The land of the olive tree», we feel obliged to address the authorities.
The serial, whose only some shooting takes place in Areopolis - Oitilo - Limeni - Kardamili and all basically in Cyprus, is presented in modern times, but all it is is an insult to the Maniats and especially to the Maniatsis.
We consider unacceptable the presentation of the characters of the inhabitants of our special homeland of Mani. He uses a vocabulary that does not represent the doppy language and typical Maniotic words. The murders, the alleged vendettas, silly kidnappings, and curses that neither used to exist in the past and especially now do not even exist in this beautiful place, which is portrayed as inhabited by savages. Even the vendettas that existed in earlier times were completely different situations.
What do the former Minister of Culture, the Maniatsis actress, the actress who was once «the Mani girl» think about all this?;
It may show some of the beautiful places of Mani, but at the same time it is a shame and an insult to the proud Maniatians.
RESPECT FOR MANI - THE HISTORY - THE CHARACTER OF MANI & MANIATES».
The letter is signed by the president of the Mani Women's Association, Ms Athina Xanthataki, the vice-president Ms Sofia Kapetanaki, the secretary Ms Stavroula Katounta and members of the Association.
