The ERT program «Sunday in the Village Again» will visit Kythira, with the aim of highlighting the island’s cultural and historical heritage through the customs, traditions, and daily lives of its residents. Filming will focus on the village of Karavas and will conclude on October 12 with a celebration featuring local cuisine and dancing.
According to a statement by the deputy mayor of Kythira, Mr. Stratigos, the TV show’s visit is part of a targeted effort to promote the island, with the support of local businesses and associations, such as «Portokalia» and «Omorfos Karavas,» as well as the Kythira Association. Special mention was made of the collaboration with the leader of the main opposition, Mr. Zacharias Souris, emphasizing that it opens new avenues of cooperation for the benefit of the island.
Mr. Stratigos expressed his gratitude to the mayor, Mr. E. Charchalakis, for his support in promoting Kythira, and invited residents and visitors to actively participate in the filming of the show.
Read General Stratigos' statement:
«As part of a targeted promotional campaign for Kythira, the municipal government contacted the production team at ERT, *Sunday in the Village Again* with Kostis Zafeirakis, to visit our island and highlight the uniqueness of Kythira in its own special way.
As part of this, the production team of the show «Sunday on the Island Again» will visit Kythira, with filming focusing on the people and the village of Karavas.
Production will wrap up on October 12 with the filming of the festival, which will feature local cuisine and traditional dances. We invite the island’s residents and visitors to support this effort and to visit and participate in the filming, which will take place on Saturday, October 12.
It is worth mentioning that, in the effort to successfully showcase the authenticity of our island’s cultural offerings, the following contributed with all their strength and energy: the island’s professionals, the local associations «Portokalia» and «O Omorfos Karavas,» the «Kythira Association» with its dance troupe, the president of the Karavas community, Mr. Kosmas Tzortzopoulos, the municipal councilor in charge of cultural affairs, Stamatina Varda, as well as the leader of the main opposition, Mr. Zacharias Souris.
I would like to believe that our excellent collaboration with Mr. Souris paves the way for a new form of cooperation among the island’s political forces and establishes a new political culture in which the island’s best interests takes precedence over everything else.
Finally, I would like to thank Mayor E. Charchalakis for his trust and support in efforts such as the one mentioned above to promote our island.
