The protagonist is sought by Disney for the transfer of the life of our compatriot basketball player to the big screen.
The film will follow the footsteps of Yannis, from the threshing floors of Athletic in the living rooms of NBA. Second of 5 children of a family of immigrants from Nigeria, “Hugo” (as his Nigerian name is), was born in 1994 in Athens and grew up with many deprivations in Sepolia. His passion was the orange ball and the indoor courts of A2, where he grew up playing basketball. His athletic qualities quickly attracted many scouts in and outside of Europe with the Milwaukee Bucks acquiring his rights and drafting him in 2013. There, his rise to star status came after hard work and translated into two consecutive awards “Most Valuable Player - MVP” of the event for 2019 and 2020.
“Giannis”, however, never forgot where he came from and at every opportunity he shows his social face, helping his family and participating in social actions in Greece and the Nigeria.
The production of the film has been undertaken by Bernie Golman, while the script will be written by the Welsh writer of the drama film, «Rosamund Pike and A Private War», Aras Amel. Directed by the Nigerian Akin Omotoso.
