Souli Souri, painter

Souli Souri was born in Athens in 1946 and was originally from Kythera. Although her health was precarious since her teenage years, she attended painting classes at the Athens School of Fine Arts. The painter's style during the first period of her activity is characterized by lyricism and rich painterly plasticity of volumes and continues with a more abstract mood in her freer compositions. Souli Souri fights for the liberation of painterly expression that characterizes her as a personality. She adheres to the expressionist conception and thus expresses her emotional world. Her visual language contains surrealistic elements with sensuality, fluidity, pain, suffering, lyricism, sarcasm, enigma, tenderness and differentiates her and makes her recognizable as a painter to a fairly large circle of people. She used various techniques and materials and through her works she celebrates women with their divisive role in life.

He wrote and illustrated the children's books «Daimos», «Trickster», «Crocus», «Pundi-Rundi and running stories» (KEDROS publications) and the series «Travels by plane - ship - car» (LOTOS publications Athens 1992). He also illustrated books by Greek writers.

Souli Souri was charming, well-rounded, intellectual and a very sensitive person. She died on 14 September 1993. Her work is in the hands of her people. They have expressed the wish to find a place in Kythera to house the painter's collection of works. This will give everyone the opportunity to get to know the artist's work.
