The declaration of war finds the inhabitants of a small Macedonian village, Mikri Lefka, celebrating, but the lads immediately stop dancing and set off for war. With the collapse of the front, the Germans enter the village and their commander, Lieutenant Willy Knut (Lakis Komnenos), turns the state-owned timber factory into a munitions factory. He forces the inhabitants to work in it.
In a climate of violence and terror, the spirit of resistance grows until the day of liberation comes and a new life begins. The pillars of the resistance were the crazy old man Tryphon Platanias (Fernando Sancho), who was in fact a wise and fervent patriot, and his son Kyriakos (Yannis Katranis) who had lost both his legs on the Albanian front.
