An important development concerning the port infrastructure of the Kythira, announced, in a press release released, the Municipality. It is about the financing of the major port projects of the island for the next few years, which, through the subsequent studies and tendering procedures provided for by the Law, are expected to provide a great developmental boost to the island.

Major Funding for the Upgrading of the Ports of Kythera
By decision of the Service Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, the request for funding of the Municipal Port Fund of Kythera amounting to 360.000,00€ (including VAT) for the preparation of studies for the upgrading and development of the port infrastructure of Kythera was included in the program «FILODIMOS II».. In particular, the following studies were funded:
- Study for the restoration and upgrading of the fishing shelter of Agia Patricia, Kythera.
- Study - Permits and Tender Documents for the Construction and Operation of a Tourist Boat Anchorage (Marina) in Piso Gialos of Kapsali, Kythera.
- Study for the creation of a safe marina and a project for the prevention of the natural heave of the existing marina of Agia Pelagia Kythera.
- Study for the improvement of the protection of the fishing shelter of Diakofti Kythera.

In order for the studies to be put out to tender as soon as possible, the services of a technical consultant were also funded, at the urging of the Ministry of Interior, who will undertake the relevant procedures as it is known that the Municipal Port Fund has no permanent staff.
The Port Fund has also been financed by 75.000,00€ from the Region of Attica for the preparation of the rehabilitation studies at the port of Pl. Ammos Port and the fishing shelter of Kapsali as well as for the investigation of the possibility of establishing a naval dockyard in Kapsali at the preliminary design stage. In addition, the Port Fund has been financed by the Public Investment Programme (PIP) to the amount of 124.000,00€ for the implementation of the operation «Supply and installation of security control systems for the Kapsali port facility of Kythera».
In total, therefore, and after the new major funding from the «PHILODEMOS II» programme, the Municipal Port Fund has approved funding (to date) of €559,000.00, with which it will study and mature the major port projects of the next few years and which will give a major development boost to our island. For the award of all these studies, the tender procedures of Law 4412/2016 will be followed as currently in force.
On the occasion of the approval of this important new funding, the Mayor of Kythera Mr. Efstratios Harhalakis and the President of the Municipal Port Fund Mr. Dimitrios Kalligeros stated the following:
«Another great funding became a reality thanks to the systematic and methodical work of our Municipal Authority and the administration of the Port Fund, both the current and the previous term under the presidency of Mr. P. Zantiotis. For the first time in its history, the Municipal Port Fund of Kythera is funded with such a large amount (360.000,00€) in order to mature major port projects, among which the Marina in Kapsali, a project of major importance that for almost 20 years had been left to its fate. We hope that in a short time these important studies will be completed in order to finance the necessary port projects that will upgrade the port infrastructure of our island for the benefit of the residents and tourism. We warmly thank the competent Ministers, the Deputy Minister of Interior Mr. Stelios Petsas and the Deputy Minister of Shipping Mr. Konstantinos Katsafados, as well as the officials of the two Ministries for their practical support to our Municipality.».
