The SYRIZA-PS Members« Organization of Kythira issued a resolution condemning the »government’s indifference” to the problems facing education on the islands. Despite statements by Education Minister Pierrakakis regarding the filling of vacancies, shortages remain, with dozens of hours of instruction not to take place.
The resolution calls for direct appointment of tenured professors and calls on residents to support the struggle for students« rights, while condemning any punitive action against them. With the message “We're talking about our children; the government is only interested in keeping its seats», SYRIZA-PS Kythira emphasizes that the education crisis will not go unaddressed. RESOLUTION OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE SYRIZA-PS ORGANIZATION OF KYTHIRA
«We're talking about our children; the government is only interested in keeping its seats.».
The General Assembly of the SYRIZA Members’ OrganizationA-P.S. on Kythira condemns the government’s authoritarianism and its indifference toward resolving the problems faced by the educational community on our islands.
– Although the Minister of Education, Mr. Pierrakakis, declared with arrogance and hubris on September 20 that «the problem was resolved by 90% within 48 hours,» we are now entering November without the shortages of teaching staff having been addressed…
– As students, teachers, and parents have reported, even today there are many dozens of unfilled teaching hours. Students on Kythira are treated as second-class citizens, while parents, teachers, and children are being threatened with sanctions following their protest actions.
– Behind the problems in education lies the neoliberal policy of the Mitsotakis government. A policy that undermines education, undermines healthcare, drives up prices, and prioritizes the profits of energy companies, banks, and all kinds of oligopolies. It also shows indifference toward regional development, something we are experiencing in an extreme way in Kythira and Antikythira.
– The SYRIZA-PS Members’ Organization of Kythira demands the immediate appointment of tenured teachers to fill all vacancies at the Kythira Junior High School and High School. It condemns the government’s authoritarianism and makes it clear that no punitive measures against students and teachers will be tolerated.
– We call on all residents of Kythira and Antikythira to resolutely support the push for solutions to the educational problems facing our islands. We are all speaking out and fighting for our children.
The Prime Minister, the Minister of Education, and the government are concerned only with their positions and the interests they serve. We’re not all the same…
