It was August 29, 2000, when the ship “Nordland” ran aground on the islet of Dragonares, in Diakofto, where it now lies half-submerged just outside the harbor. A distinctive feature of the wreck—which offers unique photographic opportunities as well as diving tourism— is that the ship’s stern lies at a depth of 30 meters, while the bow protrudes above the water. Recently, the currents in the area and severe weather conditions caused the wreck to shift in orientation and tilt. For the record, it should be noted that the ship’s crew had lost control of the vessel on the night of the grounding, as they were under the influence of alcohol during those critical hours.
