Additional resources are being deployed to extinguish the fire fire in Paros, as there were minor flare-ups in the early hours of the morning.
Specifically, two aircraft will carry out aerial water drops, while a team of firefighters is traveling by ferry from Syros. According to the Fire Department, although the fire situation improved overnight, there were minor flare-ups early this morning. For this reason, it was deemed necessary to reinforce the response team to prevent the fire from spreading further. In total, 20 firefighters are operating at the site with one ground crew and six vehicles, while local government water trucks and volunteers are providing assistance.
Last night, shortly after 9:30 p.m., a fire broke out for unknown reasons at the foot of Mount Agios Antonios, near the monastery located there, on the side of Molos and Kalogeros. The fire burned low vegetation and then moved toward Piso Livadi, without, however, threatening any residential areas. Due to the strong winds blowing in the area, the fire kept changing direction, and more than two fire fronts had formed. However, the danger to the monastery of St. Anthony—which was unoccupied at the time—as well as to some homes, was averted.
Residents armed with fire extinguishers, hoses, and earth-moving equipment are joining the firefighting effort and trying to create firebreaks.
What concerned local authorities and residents was the risk that the fire might spread to a wooded area at the foot of the mountain near Piso Livadi, where the vegetation is quite dense.
