On March 14, 1997, a large crowd of Kythirians gathered at a protest rally held in Stai Square in Chora, demanding the removal of Metropolitan Iakovos of Kythira, Archimandrite Kyriakos Stavropoulos, Iakovos Yosakis, and others involved in the scandals of that era, which had become known throughout Greece. It should be noted that at that time, the only member of parliament from our district who supported the demands of the people of Kythira against the metropolitan and the scandals was Vasilis Michalol. None of the other members of parliament from Piraeus A took a stand on this serious issue.
It should be noted that the church scandal had been «brought» to our television screens through Maki Triantafyllopoulos’s shows «Zougla» and «Kitrinos Typos» on SKAI. Archpriest Georgios Metallinos had also weighed in on the matter.
