The iconic comic book series «The Sandman» makes its screen debut after many cancellations, transfer problems and postponements. Hollywood began adapting Neil Gaiman's work in the 1990s, according to the BBC report.
«They were trying to fit a 3,000-page story into two hours of film,“ says the author. ”And nobody could do it, because it couldn't be done.».
One of the world's most famous writers Neal Gaiman said at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, about Netflix's decision to allocate a large enough budget to bring it to TV audiences.
«We're in this golden age of television,» he says. «And we have the technology to fix it.».
As reported by the Athens News Agency, the series follows Morpheus (Sandman), the lord of dreams, and his family after he has escaped from a long prison sentence. He is trying to regain his powers and control of the Dream World.
Tom Sturridge, who plays Morpheus, says:
«It's a thrill to be here at Comic-Con and share it with the fans who have been waiting for it for so long. The reason I'm a Sandman fan is because of Neil Gaiman and I'm very nervous about pleasing him.«.
It took more than 30 years to reach the small screen.
«I have no idea how the public will receive it. What I'm excited about is that I've done something that I think is really good,» says Gaiman. I can't wait for people to see it and if they like it, they'll tell others and eventually everyone will see it.« He continues: »If people don't like it, that's okay, because you can't force them to like it. But I like it," Gaiman said.
