It was held with great success according to the Municipality of Kythera the first information and consultation event for the new LEADER programme for the period 2023-2027, in Kythera, which took place at the Municipal Conference Centre of Fratsia on Monday 19/12 in the presence of the Mayor Mr. Efstratios Harhalakis, the President and members of the Board and a significant number of beneficiaries and interested citizens.
The Mayor Mr. Harhalakis, after welcoming the participants and the staff of the Attica Islands Network, expressed his satisfaction as the LEADER programme is already being implemented on our island since 2018, resulting in the inflow of 5.3 million euros (public expenditure) to the local community and economy, i.e. almost 50% of the total approved programme for the 8 municipalities of the Prefecture of the Islands. This amount was used to finance and execute major public works (e.g. the exhibition of the Antikythera Mechanism at the KEP Potamos, the restoration and promotion of the Urban School, etc.) and dozens of private investments in tourism, manufacturing, primary production, trade and services, resulting in maintaining existing jobs and creating new ones and overall social and economic development.
On behalf of the Islands Network, which as a Local Action Group manages the programme, the κ. Marinos Beretsos, informed the public about the axes of the new programming period, while a discussion and exchange of views took place in order for our island to play a leading role again in the LEADER programme for the period 2023-2027. The partner of the Network κ. Sotiris Bolis analysed the axes of cooperative actions in the fields of culture and tourism.
The Mayor Mr. Harhalakis announced that through the Islands Network, the studies for the Municipal Slaughterhouse and for the restoration of the Karavas Nursery, both of which were completed through the Technical Assistance of the Attica Regional Development Programme. At the same time, he informed that the Ministry of Rural Development and Food approved new funding (overcommitment) of 600,000 € for the LEADER program and 500,000 € for the Fisheries and Sea Program and thus all positively evaluated proposals are included. In closing, he thanked the Minister responsible, Mr. Georgantas and the Secretary General for National Resources, Mr. D. Papagiannidis, because with the excellent and constructive cooperation, the financing of dozens of public and private projects on the islands of Attica is achieved, with Kythera being significantly strengthened in the sectors of primary sector, tourism, manufacturing, catering and services.
