The progress of projects financed by the Attica Region with own resources or through co-funded programmes from the Operational Programme «Attica 2014-2020», as well as the planning of new projects and infrastructure, were the focus of the meeting of the Attica Regional Governor, C. Patouli and the Mayor of Kythera - Antikythera, Mr. Harhalakis.
The meeting was also attended by Vice-Regional Commissioner Islands Β. Theodorakopoulou Bogri and the Head of Technical Works of the Region Al. Kalogeropoulos.

During the meeting, particular reference was made to the completion and operation of a flagship project, of Landfill Landfill of Waste, budget 6.300.000,00 euros, with funding from the Attica Regional Development Programme but also in the rehabilitation of the 2 former uncontrolled landfills in Kythera and Antikythera, with the Regional Governor of Attica expressing his continuous and undivided support for the sensitive issues of environmental protection, as well as the strategic orientation of the Region in promoting actions and projects related to modern waste management and recycling.
At the same time, Mr Patoulis was informed by Mr Harhalakis on the progress of the road project in the River area, which is implemented with funding from the Region of Attica, for the implementation of sports infrastructure with funding from the Region and the renovation works of the church of Ag. Andreas in Manitochori.
Referring to the cooperation of the Region with the Municipality of Kythera, the Regional Governor of Attica pointed out:
«Through systematic work, close cooperation and the use of every available financial tool, we are accelerating the resolution of chronic problems in the sensitive area of waste management and the necessary infrastructure. With a series of important projects, our goal is to showcase the island for what it really is: A beautiful, functional place that respects the environment and realizes its potential at all levels.».
In the context of the meeting, the possibilities for the inclusion of new projects in the financial instruments of the Region were also discussed.
For his part, the Mayor of Kythera - Antikythera Mr. Harhalakis praised the excellent cooperation with the Regional Governor and the its expectation for further support on issues relating to the implementation of flood protection, regeneration and cultural projects, such as, inter alia, the creation of a monument to the spongers in Antikythera.
