In a press release issued by the Region of Attica, underlines the importance of of the auction of the road of Mormori, which provides for widening and asphalting of the road, with regional funds of €500,000.
The Communication stresses the importance of shortening the route from the port of Diakofti to Avlemonas by 15 km. For his part, the Governor of Attica, George Patoulis, stressed the importance of the implementation of development projects on the islands, while the Vice-Regional Governor of the Islands, Vasso Theodorakopoulou - Bogri, praised the contribution of the Mayor of Kythera, Eustratios Charhalakis, which he described as «efficient» and «fast» in the maturation processes of development projects.

«The immediate tendering for the construction of the project «Mormori Avlemonas Street» is ensured after the signing of the Programme Agreement between the Attica Regional Governor George Patoulis and the Mayor of Kythera Efstratios Harhalakis.
The project is important as it shortens the route from Diakofti (central port) to the tourist areas of Avlemonas and Paleopolis by at least 15 km. This is one of the most important road projects in Kythera in the last decades.
The Programme Contract for the construction of this project is budgeted 500.000,00 euros, financed from the own resources of the Region of Attica, (KAE: 9762.08.028.) and will be tendered directly by the Municipality of Kythera. The signing took place via teleconference, in the presence of the Vice-Regional Governor of the Islands, Vassiliki Theodorakopoulou Bogris.
On the occasion of the signing of the programmatic agreement, the Attica Regional Governor referred to the good cooperation that exists between the Region of Attica and the Municipality of Kythera, noting that this project is another practical proof that he personally has set as a priority the improvement of infrastructure and the implementation of development projects on the islands of the Region of Attica.
«The implementation of infrastructure and security projects on the islands of Attica is our main priority. The Region of Attica is planning to implement projects that will contribute to the development of our islands, as well as to enhance the safety of residents and visitors. The close cooperation between the Region of Attica and the competent Vice-Regional Governor of the Islands V. Theodorakopoulou Bogri and the Municipality of Kythera contributes actively to the implementation of important projects», noted G. Patoulis.
For her part, the Vice-Regional Governor of the Islands during the teleconference pointed out that Mr.Harchalakis is an effective mayor, as he implements with specific steps and fast pace all those necessary procedures to mature and implement projects in the Municipality. «The Region of Attica proves every day that it stands by the Municipality of Kythera, as it does for all the islands of our Attica», she added.
The Mayor for his part thanked warmly, both the Regional Governor, and the Deputy Head of the Islands noting that it is exemplary cooperation with the political leadership of the Region of Attica, «cooperation which has yielded significant results for the Municipality of Kythera» which is currently being carried out with the funding of the Region dozens of projects.
The project
According to the programmatic, it is planned to widen the entire road to a length of about 3.5 km in order to obtain the appropriate width of 5.5 m., the construction of stormwater drainage techniques, the placement of metal protective parapets and the striping of the road after the asphalt paving with new modern asphalt pavement 5 cm thick.
The study and the full maturation of the project (including all the required approvals) was a long process that was successfully completed by the Technical Service of the Municipality of Kythera in cooperation with the Technical Support Department of Attica Island Municipalities of the Region of the Islands.
