Russia announced today its intention to formally annex the four occupied regions of Ukraine at a special ceremony on Friday. The regions in question are Chersonas, Zaporizhzhya, Luhansk and Donetsk, which have been partially or completely occupied by Russian forces since the start of the war in Ukraine on 24 February.
The authorities in these four Russian-occupied regions of Ukraine conducted polls for their accession to Russia and claimed that the majority of the inhabitants were in favour of this move.
As reported by the BBC, Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend tomorrow, Friday 30 September, the ceremony to be held in the Kremlin for the signing of the agreements on the integration of the occupied territories of Ukraine to Russia, his spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced.
«A ceremony of signing the agreements on the integration of the new regions into the Russian Federation will take place tomorrow at 15:00 (local time and Greek time) in the Kremlin.», said Peskov.
«Vladimir Putin will deliver an important speech during the ceremony,» he added, noting that the Russian president will then meet with the Moscow-appointed heads of the four Ukrainian regions.
The West and Kiev have rejected the referendums and have warned that they will not recognise the annexation of these territories to Russia.
