Shadow of possible pollution in Kapsali and Mylopotamos, answers requested.
The municipal faction «All Together, Kythira - Antikythera» submitted on 30 March 2026 a question to the Municipal Authority regarding complaints that need immediate investigation, on the one hand for possible breakage of the underwater pipeline of the Biological Kapsali and possible sewage leakage in the marine area of Kapsali and on the other hand for uncontrolled disposal of sewage in the area of Mylopotamos, ending up in a stream near an archaeological site.
It is recalled that the biological treatment plant discharges treated waste water and not clean water, the safe disposal of which requires the proper functioning of the subsea pipeline and its disposal at great depth. Any deviation from this procedure may lead to environmental pollution.
The faction «All Together, Kythira - Antikythera» asks for clear answers about the actions that have been taken, the checks and sampling that have been carried out or are to be carried out, as well as the specific timetable for restoration, separately for the case of Kapsali and for the case of Mylopotamos.
The responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the facilities rests solely with the Municipal Authority. There can be no delays or vague answers to such a serious issue.
