The manager of the Foiniki Agricultural Cooperative in Laconia, Mr. George Kritikos, told the agrotypos that «The cooperative agreed to sell a tank of extra virgin olive oil from the 2023–2024 harvest to the Heliotis company. This extra virgin olive oil, with an acidity level of 0.35, sold for 8.65 euros per kilogram.
In any case, this year’s production is significantly lower, and demand has picked up in recent days. For their part, producers seem reluctant to sell for tax reasons. The region hasn’t experienced major problems with the olive fruit fly. However, the strong winds we’ve had in recent days have knocked some olives to the ground.».
