It is not only the «Power of the dog», the «The hand of God» of Sorrentino and the «Don't look up» the films of Netflix who will probably play hard at this year's Oscars. Another production from the acclaimed streaming platform is slowly but surely joining the list of films that will make it into the academy nominations.
«Tick, Tick...Boom», the first feature film by Lin-Manuel Miranda, is a musical on the last days of the Jonathan Larson, creator of the iconic musical «Rent», whose success he was unable to enjoy as he passed away before his 35th birthday in January 1996.
The semi-biographical film tells the story of the efforts of Jonathan Larson (played by Andrew Garfield in a shocking interpretation) around the late 80s to find a band, actors and especially financiers in order to be able to put on the Broadway a work of science fiction set in the near future.
As he says himself, the play satirizes showbiz («it's a unique moment in entertainment history, the quintessential social adventure on a night that will cover the TV beauty awards in an 18-hour program broadcast live via satellite and interrupted only for overpriced commercials.».
And when one of his musicians asks him to explain his play because it's a bit confusing - earlier someone else asked him if he had aliens - the playwright's answer, who is not even in his 30s, reveals how special his genius was and how ahead of his time he was.
