A new bad weather will affect the country today and tomorrow Wednesday. According to the latest forecast data of the National Observatory of Athens/meteo.gr, the main features will be strong local phenomena, gusty winds in the sea and a drop in temperature.
This severe weather is expected to be a Category 3, in terms of the Regional Precipitation Index (RPI). From the beginning of 2022, the Meteo unit has started to categorise severe weather events, which are expected to cause high rainfall, based on the calculation of the Rainfall Incident Hazard Index (RPI).
More specifically:
Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected today, Tuesday, mainly in the Ionian Sea and the mainland and on Wednesday mainly in the Aegean Sea, Crete and the Northeast, Eastern and Southern mainland.
Snowfall will initially occur in the mountains of Epirus, Thessaly and Macedonia, which from Tuesday afternoon will extend to the mountains of Thrace, as well as to low-altitude areas of Macedonia and Thrace. On Wednesday, snowfall will occur even in lowland areas of Macedonia and Thrace, as well as in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas of the rest of the mainland.
Strong to gusty winds from southerly directions will prevail in the seas, which during Tuesday in the Ionian Sea and Wednesday in the Aegean will shift to westerly to northwesterly.
The temperature will gradually drop, which will be felt from Tuesday in the north and west and in the whole country on Wednesday, when it will not exceed 5-6 degrees Celsius in the central and northern areas and 11-13 degrees Celsius in the rest of the country.
