The first of the #metoo cases that stirred up the tsunami of revelations of the former Olympic sailing champion, Sophia Bekatorou, it reaches the courtrooms.
The case concerns the rape of a female sailor by her coach - who is in temporary custody - ten years ago, when the girl was a minor. The trial starts on 22 January 2022 and will be held before the Mixed Court of Justice.

In the proposal for his indictment, the prosecutor in charge had mentioned to the Council that he had «shown» the 38-year-old the dock: «He unashamedly confessed that he had full-fledged sexual relations with his underage athlete. He took advantage of her inexperience and her parents» trust in him.".
The prosecutor, whose proposal was accepted by the judges of the Council also stated that the accused «used sexual and psychological violence on the minor to prevent her from disclosing to her parents about her rape.».
