The Kythira Citizens« Movement »Dynamo" joins the fight against wind turbines

Significant remarks were made at the Regional Council meeting. Manolis Haros conveyed the message of the people of Kythira to the Attica Regional Council.

As the island of Kythira was once again ravaged by flames, the Kythira Citizens“ Movement ”Dynamo” made a strong showing at the meeting of the Attica Regional Council, where TERNA ENERGY's Environmental Impact Study was unanimously rejected for the installation of wind turbines on the island.

Representing the Movement, the artist from Kythira and active citizen Manolis Charos intervened in the meeting, informing the assembly of the new tragedy unfolding on Kythira, as fires were recurring in the same areas as in 2017. In his emotionally charged speech, he conveyed the the voice and determination of the residents who oppose the degradation of their local area.

The «Dynamo» Movement emphasizes that The fight doesn't end here. The people of Kythira remain active, united, and determined to protect their natural and cultural heritage opposed to any plan that ignores the needs and voice of the local community. The Movement’s press release follows.

PRESS RELEASE-CITIZENS' MOVEMENT OF KYTHERA

While the island was going through tragic moments yesterday, Monday, July 29, the Attica Regional Council, by unanimous decision, ISSUED A NEGATIVE OPINION on TERNA ENERGY’s Environmental Impact Study for the wind farmson the island, following in the footsteps of the Peloponnese Regional Council and giving us a small dose of optimism.

All political factions participated, and through their statements they underscored the absolute unanimity of the island’s residents and clearly condemned the unjustified delay in the signing of the EPM by the competent Ministry of Environment and Energy.

Our fellow countryman Manolis Charos spoke at the meeting on behalf of the Citizens’ Movement, taking the opportunity to inform the assembly about the rekindling of the fire that was occurring at the same timeand about the tragedy that had occurred once again, in the same manner, at the same locations on Kythira as in 2017.

The meeting was also attended by MEP Kostas Arvanitis, Vice Chair of the Left Group in the European Parliament, Kostas Arvanitis, who pledged to bring the issue of Kythira to the European Parliament and issued a related press release.
