Η Russia «It is »ready' to work constructively with Libya's new executive branch," the Russian foreign minister announced today.
The head of Russian diplomacy Sergei Lavrov spoke on the phone with the Abdel Hamid Dbeiba, the new interim prime minister, as well as with the Mohamed Younes el-Menfi, the chairman of the Presidential Council, to congratulate them on his election and wish them «good luck» in their work, the announcement states.
Lavrov confirmed that Moscow «is ready for constructive cooperation with the Libyan transitional administration in order to resolve the long-standing crisis in that country as soon as possible,» he added. He also noted that Russia wishes «to strengthen cooperation» and the traditionally friendly relations between the two sides.
As of Saturday, Libya has entered a new transitional phase, following the election of new political authorities who will be tasked with leading the country toward elections this coming December.
