The bicycle can provide all the possibilities for fast and economical transport, while at the same time helping to exercise the body. But are our cities friendly enough for the use of bicycles to enable citizens to choose them for their daily commute?;
In the city of Larissa, in recent years, one sees more and more bicycles on the streets and this is something very interesting.
The truth is that Larissa is an area that favors the use of bicycles, since it is without hills and, most importantly, has very beautiful routes for safe pedaling.
According to the Cycling Map of Greece, the municipality of Larissa currently has 15.5 km of cycle paths which makes it particularly friendly to the use of bicycles. Of course, the future of this city is more interesting as, according to the Sustainable Mobility projects currently underway, it will have a total of 40 km of cycle paths.
As explained to RES-MPA the Deputy Mayor George Soylitis, these projects will give the city a huge advantage in terms of the use of bicycles.
«Larissa, according to the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) projects that are being developed, will acquire a total of 40 kilometres of cycle paths, making it a bicycle-friendly city in terms of infrastructure,» said Mr.Sultis and added: Projects are underway that will create a comprehensive network of cycle paths offering cyclists the opportunity to cycle across the entire city. After all, the logic of the SDC is that our cities should be able to better integrate all alternative forms of transport.
It is worth noting that according to the data of the bicycle map of Greece at the level of Thessaly, the municipalities with bicycle corridors today are as follows:
Municipality of Agia: 5,9km.
Municipality of Farkadona: 1,4km.
Municipality of Trikkaion: 4,3km.
Municipality of Lake Plastira: 9,4km.
Municipality of Karditsa: 13.4 km, of which car-cycle coexistence: 1.3 km, cycle lane: 0.8 km and cycle lanes: 11.3 km.
Municipality of Larissa: 15.5 km, of which car-cycle coexistence: 1.2 km, cycle lane: 1.1 km and cycle lanes: 13.2 km.
Municipality of Volos: 11.7 km, of which coexistence of car and bicycle: 0.7 km, recommended bicycle lanes: 1 km, bicycle lanes: 2.6 km, bicycle lanes: 7.4 km.
