Biography of the artist
Angelos Antonopoulos was born in Tropea, Arcadia in 1957. He studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts with D. Mytaras, D. Kokkinidis, V. Dimitreas and set design with V. Vassiliadis. He presented his first solo exhibition of paintings in Athens (1986, gallery F) and in 1990 he created a large painted decoration for the Athens cinema Ideal, while later he decorated the Cinema Sineak in Piraeus in a similar way. His sculptures, small or large in size, are usually made of metal mesh and plaster. At the same time, however, he uses various technical and expressive media (painting, photography, objects, etc.) in wall-mounted or three-dimensional compositions, with an emphasis on their relationship to space. The visual treatment of his works highlights the perfection of the forms, without emphasizing their static nature. He taught painting at the Art Workshop of Chalkida (1987-1998) and since 1989 he has been teaching at the A’ Painting Workshop of the ASFA (associate professor since 2009). His solo exhibitions have been presented in Greece and Cyprus. He has participated in group exhibitions in Greece and abroad (Italy, Spain, Croatia, Germany, United Arab Emirates, Spain).
