The Administration of the General Hospital – Kythira Health Center issued a series of announcements «Trifylleio» regarding the acceptance of new equipment, the establishment of a framework for donations, and the Director’s official presence at events on the island.
In particular, the hospital director, Mr. Theodoros G. Koukoules, and the staff expressed their gratitude to Mr. Michael Trialonis, a resident of Moschato, for his donation of 160 white sheets. The donation was made during Mr. Trialonis’s first visit to Kythira, with the aim of strengthening the health services provided to residents and visitors.
In light of this specific incident, the Administration has clarified the procedure that future donors must follow. According to the relevant guidelines, interested parties are required to contact the Finance Department or the Administration in advance to be informed of the Hospital’s actual needs. At the same time, it was clarified that donations must be made exclusively in kind and not in cash, and it was emphasized that every donation will be made public.
As part of his official duties, Mr. Koukoulis attended the award ceremony for the ship «Porfyrousa» by the Piraeus UNESCO Group for its 18 years of service on the Naples–Kythira–Antikythira route. During the event, the speakers highlighted the reliability of the service, the efficiency of the crew, and the ship’s contribution during emergencies, while also expressing their gratitude to the shipowners, Messrs. Polychronis Tourlomousis and Georgios Tsailas.
In his brief remarks, Mr. Koukoules referred to an incident from his time as mayor, when the owners of the ship «Vitsentzos Kornaros» attempted to enter the Naples–Kythira route. As the Commander noted, his immediate response to the shipping company and the Ministry of Merchant Marine, following a decision by the City Council, prevented the «Porfyrousa» from the route, thereby ensuring the stability of the island’s ferry service.
