Welcome to the sounds of silence.
As any visitor to the island of Aphrodite would agree, there is something very special about the island. If you could put it in a bottle, you'd be a rich man. But silence is elusive. Because that's what it's all about. That fragile, beautiful sense of absolute silence, in harmony with the natural world. A silence that is now in danger. This island has gone down in history under various names. The Minoans called it Porphyroussa, the Venetians Kythera, while the locals affectionately refer to it as Tsirigo. Today it is called Kythera. That deep silence that pervades everything. Migratory birds fly past it, the sounds of the winds magnify it, while the ancient stone walls absorb and reflect it. The silence of Kythera becomes a witness to the natural world. It keeps the inner and outer worlds in balance. Whether you are short term visitors or long term residents, we are all guardians of this sublime silence. Proceed «quietly and humbly,» and enjoy your summer.
