The Lighthouse Sessions of SNFCC, This original series of musical events—which combines interviews with concerts and jazz with Greek songs—continues in February.
The composer and drummer Alexander Drakos Ktistakis He talks with his guests about their lives and musical journeys, while at the same time inviting them to engage in a musical dialogue,open to improvisation and experimentation, accompanied by a jazz trio and a string quartet.
The Sunday, February 13, at 9:00 p.m. Ktistakis's guest at the SNFCC Lighthouse is Orpheas Peridis. The renowned Greek singer-songwriter joins forces with Ktistakis’s versatile ensemble to experiment with jazz and classical sounds. Landmark tracks from the ’90s and highlights from Orpheas Peridis’s subsequent career are rendered with unique arrangements, in anticipation of his upcoming solo album.
A singer-songwriter who blended folk and art music with the quests, sounds, and introspective tendencies of his generation, Orpheas Peridis made his recording debut in 1990, contributing three of his own songs to the album Tools by Nikos Papazoglou. In 1993, his first solo album, titled Oh, My Dreamy Soul It was a huge success and established him. Three years later, it was followed by the Have a Good Day When You Wake Up. In the years that followed, she worked closely with artists such as Manolis Rasoulis, Petros Vagiopoulos, and Lizeta Kalimeri, and since 2020 he has been performing on stage with guitar virtuoso Manolis Androulidakis. His second album for children is expected to be released this year.
With an academic background in the Department of Music Studies at the Ionian University, the composer, arranger, and virtuoso drummer Alexander Drakos Ktistakis He is currently one of the leading figures on the domestic jazz scene. Born in Heraklion, Crete, he began playing professionally in various bands upon moving to Athens as a student. In late 2015, the Alex Drakos Trio—which he formed with double bassist Dino Manos and pianist Yannis Papadopoulos—released the album Tora, while Ktistakis's latest album, titled Circles It was released in 2021. Guided by improvisation and drawing on influences from rock, traditional, and classical music, he now inspires a new generation of jazz musicians through his teaching, creativity, and approach.
