The 41-year-old Konstantinos Katsafados Kyriakos Mitsotakis chose him for the position of Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs, a position that has just been created.
An economist by profession, Kostas Katsafados, Member of Parliament for the First District of Piraeus, was born in Piraeus in 1979 and traces his ancestry to Mani and Karpathos.
He studied economics in the Department of Economics at the School of Economics, Business, and International Studies of the University of Piraeus where he also earned his master's degree in «Business Administration – Tourism Management.».
In March 2007, he founded his accounting and tax consulting firm in downtown Piraeus. During his college years, he served as Head of the DAP-NDFK at the University of Piraeus and as President of the Board of Directors of the University of Piraeus Student Association «Platon,» and represented undergraduate students on the Senate and the Rector’s Council of the University of Piraeus as a full member. In the 2002 municipal elections, he was elected City Councilor in the Municipality of Keratsini and in 2006, he was elected Prefectural Councilor for Athens–Piraeus as a member of the «Citizens» Super-Prefecture” party.
In 2007, he was elected by the ONNED Congress as Secretary of its Central Committee, a position he held until 2010. From April 2010 to May 2012, he served as Vice President of ONNED.
From 2006-2007, he served as a research associate at the Ministry of Public Order, and from 2007 to 2009, he served as a scientific advisor to the Privatization Secretariat of the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
From 2004 onward, for a decade, he was consistently elected as the Representative of Economists to the Economic Chamber of Greece.
In the 2009 parliamentary elections, he ran as a candidate for the New Democracy party in the Piraeus A and Islands constituency, finishing as the first alternate MP with 11,000 preferential votes.
He was first elected as a Member of Parliament for the A’ Piraeus & Islands constituency in the 2012 parliamentary elections. He was subsequently elected Secretary of the Hellenic Parliament, a position he held until 2015. In the January 2015 parliamentary elections, he was elected as the 1st Member of Parliament for Piraeus A & the Islands and was re-elected in the September 2015 elections.
On November 18, 2016, by decision of President Kyriakos Mitsotakis, he assumed his duties Deputy Head of the Environment and Energy Division of the party.
