Petros Filippidis and Dimitris Lignadis will remain in temporary custody in the same cell at the Tripoli prison, who are accused of felonious sexual offenses.
Petros Filippidis was taken to the third wing of the Tripoli prison after being remanded in custody for one count of rape and two counts of attempted rape, while he had been held in a special quarantine area since last Wednesday due to COVID-19.
Dimitris Lignadis, the former artistic director of the National Theater who has resigned, also remains in custody in the same cell; he is accused of serial rape.
The two «protagonists» of the Greek ##MeToo movement will share the same cell with more than 20 inmates, as this prison does not have separate cells.
According to Alpha, Petros Filippidis’s wife, Elpida Ninou, was the first person the actor visited in prison, while —as reports indicate—the defendant is expected to file a request for release in the near future through his attorney.
It should be noted that since early July, Dimitris Lignadis, who is being held in pretrial detention on charges of serial rape, Dimitris Lignadis, has been seeking his release, requesting to be placed under supervision via the electronic monitoring system, known as an «ankle monitor,» —and at his own expense, no less.
A play starring Lignadis and, as a member of the audience… Filippidis
A theatrical production is currently in the works and is set to be staged at the Tripoli prison; according to exclusive information from CNN Greece, the former artistic director of the National Theater is set to participate as part of the cultural activities and creative engagement and educational programs for inmates.
It should be noted that these specific cultural activities are subsidized by various programs of the country’s regions (this particular one at the Tripoli prisons is funded by the Peloponnese Region) and aim to develop skills among inmates, such as creativity, the importance of teamwork, the power of self-improvement, and so on.
