Karavas, Kythira, honored the memory of the heroes Tassos Isaac and Solomos Solomos

With a commemorative motorcycle ride featuring 60 motorcyclists and their companions from Cyprus, Karavas honored the two heroes, sending a message of unity with the occupied Karavas in Cyprus. The event was attended by representatives of local government, organizations, and a large crowd, while the absence of the Mayor of Kythira caused a stir; although he had stated that he would attend, he ultimately did not show up.

The following is the press release from Zacharias I. Souris, President of the Municipal Community of Karava:

Karavas, Kythira, honored the memory of the heroes Tassos Isaac and Solomos Solomos

The reception event for the «Isaac-Solomos Memorial Initiative» was held with great success and deep emotion on Friday, July 10, 2026, in Karava, Kythira, as part of the commemorative tour organized to mark the 30th anniversary of the sacrifice of the heroes Tassos Isaac and Solomos Solomos.

The delegation, consisting of 34 motorcyclists, 60 participants in total, and 3 support vehicles (minivans), was welcomed in Karava, where a memorial service was held at the Community Memorial, wreaths were laid, the National Anthem was played, and a memorial event followed with greetings, speeches, and a musical tribute in honor of the two heroes.

At the end of the event, a commemorative plaque bearing the inscription «ROAD OF VIRTUE ISAAC – SOLOMOU,» as a tribute to the two heroes and as a timeless symbol of their memory and their struggle.

The event was attended by the former mayor of Karava, Cyprus, Mr. Papaioannou; on behalf of the mayor of Kythira and Antikythira, Deputy Mayor Mr. Georgios Kominos; the President of the Kythira Municipal Council, Mr. Konstantinos Kapsalis; the Leader of the Minority Faction of the Municipal Council, Mr. Anargyros Sofios; the former Mayor of Kythira and Antikythira and current Director of the Kythira General Hospital, Mr. Theodoros Koukoulis, representatives of associations and organizations, as well as numerous residents and visitors who honored the event with their presence.

The absence of the mayor of Kythira and Antikythira was particularly notable; although he had initially announced that he would attend the event, he ultimately did not show up.

Following the conclusion of the event, a brief reception and refreshments were held in the hall of the Lower Elementary School of Karava, courtesy of the Karava Center for Cultural, which played a decisive role in ensuring the delegation’s impeccable hospitality.

As President of the Municipal Community of Karava, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the «Isaac Solomos Memorial Initiative» for the impeccable organization and the powerful national message it conveyed, as well as to the Karava Center for Culture, Tradition, and Contemporary Art in Karava, the volunteers, and everyone who contributed to the successful realization of the event.

Karavas, Kythira, had the special honor of being one of the stops on this important journey of remembrance, sending the timeless message that the sacrifice of the heroes Tassos Isaac and Solomos Solomos remains alive, Cyprus is not forgotten, and the bonds between Karavas, Kythira, and the occupied Karavas in Cyprus remain unbreakable.

THE PRESIDENT
