In a public statement regarding the issue of his hunger strike, which has been ongoing for 48 days, Dimitris Koufontinas, the Association of Judges and Prosecutors, calling on the government to reconsider its stance toward the detainee.
In a related announcement, it states:
«Justice is a concept inherent in leniency and humanism. The Union of Judges and Prosecutors calls on the State to reconsider its stance on the treatment of prisoner D. Koufodontas, whose life is in immediate danger following a hunger and thirst strike lasting many days, and to take all legal measures to protect his life and health.”.
The crimes he committed were condemned both by the Greek courts and by the collective conscience. Democracy has solid foundations and strong institutions that allow it to combine the requirement of compliance with the law with respect for the principles of humanity.
