«The Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro adapted from his classic Italian fairy tale Pinocchio in a stop-motion musical adventure. Follow Pinocchio’s mischievous adventures as he tries to become a real boy.».
Guillermo del Toro adapts the classic Italian fairy tale *Pinocchio* and the Netflix released the first teaser for the «quirky musical» that will premiere on the platform this coming December.
The following actors lend their voices to the classic fairy tale: Ewan McGregor as Grylos, David Bradley as Geppetto and the newcomer Gregory Mann as Pinocchio. Also, Finn Wolfhard, the Oscar-winning Kate Blanchett and the John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, Bern Gorman, Christoph Waltz, and Tilda Swinton.
«I want to tell you a story. It’s a story you might think you know, but you don’t really know it. You see, I, Jiminy Cricket, was there. To be precise, I lived in the heart of the wooden boy.».
The film, directed by Del Toro and Mark Gustafson, «follows Pinocchio’s mischievous adventures in Italy during the 1930s» and this is ultimately the most interesting aspect, as del Toro sets the story in fascist Italy, during Mussolini’s rise to power—hence his statement from a few months ago: «Pinocchio is about what makes a person a person and what makes a person a puppet.».
«No art form has influenced my life and work more than animation, and no character has had such a deep personal connection with me as Pinocchio,» says Guillermo del Toro.
«In our story, Pinocchio is an innocent soul with an indifferent father who gets lost in a world he cannot understand and embarks on a unique journey. I’ve wanted to make this movie for as long as I can remember. I’m grateful that Netflix gave me the opportunity of a lifetime to bring my own version of the wooden puppet who became a real boy to life,» concludes Guillermo del Toro.
