Greece like Amazon

The state, acting as representative of major interests, tramples assets with the aim of granting concessions for large-scale investments that are devastating to the environment. There is widespread unrest throughout the country regarding the ratification of the new forest maps.

On Tinos, for example, as reported by the "People of Tini" Municipal Party, the areas designated as forest, on the one hand, have nothing to do with forests and, on the other hand, are located in areas where it is planned to install RES or for large companies to make investments in tourism, and there are many private or municipal plots of land. Many lawful landowners, in order to oppose the encroachment, are required to pay a “fee” to file an objection, even as they continue to pay the ENFIA property tax. At the same time, they will not have the right to use their land as they wish until their objections are reviewed. If they do not take action, the government will assert ownership rights.

This process applies to the ENTIRE country, not just Tinos. This is an attack on the constitutional right to property unlike any Greece has ever seen, at least under a democratic regime.

The following is the announcement from “Koinon Tinion”:

Tinos is NOT public property and is NOT FOR SALE!
With the publication of the Forest Map of Tinos and the objection process regarding it, the following points become readily apparent:
– or we’ll have to pay a “fee” to file an appeal and try to prove the obvious—namely, that our property belongs to us
– or if we do not file an objection in a timely manner, the government will assert ownership rights, resulting in the complete devaluation of our property
Any areas that are ultimately designated as forest land:
a. Under the current legal framework, they are considered PUBLIC and are managed by the state!
b. They cannot be transferred or utilized in any way by their current owners!
c. They may be sold or transferred by the government to anyone, for any purpose!

After all, it is no coincidence that the selected “green” areas of the island are
– the northern part of the island and all its mountain ridges (strong wind potential for WIND TURBINES and high levels of sunshine for PHOTOVOLTAICS)
– certain areas in the southern part of the island (areas with all the characteristics suitable for TOURISM)

The conclusion is that these maps have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the protection of forests and the environment!

This is nothing but EXTORTION and PLUNDER on both private and municipal lands on the island!

What is being implemented today has been in the works for years, and the responsibility lies with both the current government and previous ones.

The problem is political and can only be solved through IMMEDIATE legislative action that would provide for:
– Repeal of the forest map as published, as well as suspension of the entire objection process
– First, the completion of the CADASTRAL MAP on our island, so that citizens can register their properties, and then the drafting of the FOREST MAP
– the sole criterion for selecting green areas should be environmental protection
– Respect for property owners’ rights!
We call on the people of Tinos to spread the word about this important event, to take action, and to apply pressure in any way we can to put a stop to this blatant injustice!
