On August 23, during the nine-day feast of the Virgin Mary, the pilgrimage to Our Lady of Orfani in Mertidi, Mylopotamos, is celebrated according to tradition.
The complex is built on the slope of a picturesque ravine, surrounded by hills covered with cedars, holm oaks, junipers, and other shrubs. The church is cave-like and has three aisles, with the central aisle dedicated to the Virgin Mary, the left aisle to Saint George, and the right aisle to the three patron saints of the island.
The pilgrimage site, which features cells, a kitchen, a cistern, and a reception hall, was privately owned by the Darmaros family and is first mentioned in 1782.
