Andreas Papadopoulos's Farewell
Andreas Papadopoulos, a resident and professional in Chora, wrote a touching message to bid him farewell:
GOODBYE, MY FRIEND “KOUSOURI”
“Kousourogianni”…………………. May she rest in peace.
Another good friend of mine and fellow human being passed away today and entered eternal life.
A man from Sparta who welcomed us (as strangers in the country) immediately—me and my family—and took us into his home, we ate, drank, celebrated, laughed, grieved, and went hunting. We became part of his family.
He never let us celebrate on our own. He always had a place at his table for us. We became friends.
Kousouris took me along with him, and I learned how to hunt rabbits. So many hunts, so many rabbits, so many adventures. And… what a master craftsman!!! A carpenter among the finest artisans!! He even made stocks for guns. A goldsmith and a true perfectionist!!! He helped me finish my house—on credit and without any promissory notes—whenever he could.
How many times did we sleep in that little house in the old town, to cook and go hunting?.
So many parties!!!!
So many hunts!!!!
How many times in the cork forest, in memory of St. Pelagia of the Cork Forest.
And he would always have a rabbit as a votive offering in that cork-lined thing.
And the song would always start.
To ……. Anzulina.!!!!!
How many, many times did we ask him to tell us, in that special way of his, with his lips smacking.!!!!
OH MY GOD!!!!!
That's how he liked to call me!!
What about him??
GLYKOULIS!!!
That's how he liked us to call him because… he says women like it!!!!
Mr. Yiannis and I fell in love. .
He loved us, and we loved him.
A man of the “old school.” Besalis—honest, proud, and someone who would never sell you out.
I’ll only have good memories of you, “Sweetie.”.
I'm sure you don't regret leaving!
I'm sure it's because you didn't want to “grow old”!
And then there's… the way you left. That's how you wanted it. I'm sure of it.
Goodbye, sweet friend!!!
Goodbye… “Skouarantzo,” Kousouri.
Goodbye, Mr. Yiannis.
To his wife, Mrs. Matina,
To his children, Pappaspyros, Panagiotis, and Pelagia, and to all his loved ones, our heartfelt condolences from me and my family.
