Georgia Bika's appeal to the European Court of Human Rights, which she had made on 22 September, was deemed admissible in the first stage, when she was absolutely determined to exhaust every legal avenue to get justice for her case.
In particular, according to information reported by thesstoday, the controversial case, after the exhaustion of all domestic legal remedies, now officially takes the road abroad, with the European Court of Justice proposing to Georgia and the Greek government to proceed to a settlement in order to be compensated.
«Georgia Bika is not going to accept the settlement because she wants the case to go to a public hearing to argue live what exactly happened, and then the court will decide on the final amount of damages.» stresses the lawyer of Georgia, Mr. Nikos Dialinas.
As the well-known criminal lawyer says, there is no question of accepting a higher or lower amount of compensation, but it is a question of justifying Georgia, and above all of morality. «From then on, our next appointment will be at the European Court of Justice, and it is worth pointing out that out of 78,000 appeals, only 8% of them are upheld. Everyone can draw their own conclusions, not only about the evidence contained in the appeal but also about the failure and omissions of the Greek authorities.».
It is recalled that the 24-year-old woman appealed to the European Court of Justice following the decision of the prosecutor of the Supreme Court to file a petition for an appeal against the verdict of the Thessaloniki Council of Petty Magistrates, which acquitted the 27-year-old from the charge of rape.
It is noted that by his order, the Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court Ach. Zisis put the case on file, considering the rationale of the verdict to be correct, with the 24-year-old woman proceeding immediately and with absolute confidence in the appeal, remaining calm and thinking only of her goal, to get justice.
