Two critically injured with burns and one dead is so far the account of the fire that broke out in a covid ward in Papanikolaou Hospital.
It all started when a covid patient lit a cigarette next to the oxygen tanks, causing an explosion in the ward. The explosion also caused a problem with the hospital's oxygen system.
According to hospital information, it is not clear whether the patient who caused the fire is the deceased.
The two severely injured with multiple burns were transferred to the CICU, but their management is difficult because they also have coughs. The outpatient clinic was closed to transfer patients with coronavirus there.
The fire was attended by 30 firefighters with 11 vehicles, who remain on the scene for fear of reigniting the fire and because of the smoke. It should be noted that Covid ward has been completely evacuated.
The fire department transported 35 patients who were deemed necessary to avoid the danger of the dense smoke in the building due to the fire. 23 patients were transferred from the first floor and 12 from the third floor.
