“I try to outsmart myself, or rather to paint faster than I ”I can think, surprise myself, and find something more true in paint."
Jan Ten Have

“The paintings provide a neutral—and perhaps hopeful—foundation for whatever the future may yet hold. They open the mind and spirit to the possibility of better days ahead.”
Jan Ten Have
At first glance, from a distance, the paintings give the impression of a flat, monochromatic image. But when viewed up close, it is as if they come to life. We realize their complexity and their sensuousness, as they consist of many layers of intense colors that run across the entire surface, right up to the edges. It is as if a presence were appearing in front of and behind their surface, filling them with vitality.

Bio
Jan Ten Have
Jan ten Have is an abstract painter born in 1957 in the Netherlands who lives on Kythira. His work has been exhibited in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, London, Los Angeles, and Hong Kong in both solo and group exhibitions. Since moving to Kythira, he has collaborated with the Frank Taal Gallery in Rotterdam and the Follow Your Art Gallery in Kythira. Through his art, Jan ten Have explores a new approach to the relationship between form and matter. His new work, consisting of combinations of porcelain and glass, is a kind of minimalist play on the boundaries of modernity. The artist thinks beyond the boundaries of the traditional use of material, establishing a doctrine of materialism in which matter always triumphs over form. It is in matter that form collapses, unleashing an experience of the real as the secret of matter. The new use of matter and the use of new, intense forms help each other to express themselves outwardly. That which is unrelated to us and which lies entirely elsewhere.
Jan Ten Have
Jan ten Have is an abstract painter born in 1957 in the Netherlands, based in Kythera, Greece. His work has been exhibited throughout the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany, as well as in solo and group exhibitions in London, Los Angeles, and Hong Kong. Following his move to Kythera, he has represented by Frank Taal Gallery in Rotterdam and Georgia Tseri in Kythera. In his artistic practice, Jan ten Have explores a new approach to the tension between form and matter. His new works—materialized fusions of porcelain and glass—constitute a kind of minimalist exploration at the edge of modernity. Ten Have thinks beyond the boundaries of the traditional use of matter, revealing what lies beyond it. He establishes a doctrine of materialism, in which matter always prevails over form. And it is in matter that form dissolves, revealing an experience of the real as the secret of matter. New ways of using matter and the use of new, stark forms pursue one another in the passion for the outside—that outside which is not relative to us, and which exists entirely elsewhere.
