The following is under control: fire which broke out shortly before 2:30 p.m. at the “Ortholithos” site in the wider Gerakario area.
The fire broke out in a hard-to-reach area, and the Fire Department responded immediately, deploying both ground and aerial resources.
Twelve firefighters with five vehicles and two helicopters are operating in the area, while volunteers, the Civil Protection Agency of the Municipality of Kythira, and local residents are assisting in the efforts.
According to the latest reports, the situation at the fire front has improved, with the helicopters ready to depart shortly, while a foot patrol from Laconia is expected to arrive in the area to provide security.
The latest report indicates that this particular area has burned before, with small pine trees scattered throughout the low vegetation that has grown up in the meantime.
