The flames are currently approaching the settlements of Oinoi and Panorama (formerly TITAN), as a major wildfire continues to rage for the fourth consecutive day in the wider Vilia area.
Firefighting operations have focused on the areas mentioned above, with firefighters making superhuman efforts to halt the fire’s advance toward residential areas, which, at the same time, has active hotspots and flare-ups along its entire perimeter—spanning many kilometers—where it has spread.
Aerial resources have already been reinforced, and seven helicopters and seven aircraft—including the Russian Beriev-200—are now operating on a rotating basis.
According to the Fire Department, the situation has improved at this time, and the settlements of Agia Paraskevi, Karaouli, and Thea—for which fire department officials had recommended that residents evacuate—are no longer in immediate danger, although they are located within the fire zone and consist mainly of scattered homes. For this reason, all relevant agencies are on standby to carry out an evacuation if necessary.
Due to the fire, as announced by the Traffic Police, traffic has been suspended on the following roads: On the Alepochori–Psatha provincial road- Vilia, from Psatha toward Porto Germeno-Vilia; on Katandromon Avenue, from the intersection with Nea Zoi Street in Megara in the direction of Mount Pateras; and on Katandromon Avenue Katandromon Avenue from the area near the Church of Saint Fanourios in Megara in the direction of Mount Pateras.
