Ο Mayor of Kythira Efstratios Charhalakis in a post on his personal Facebook account was installed Regarding yesterday's article by Kythera.News which states that The judiciary is investigating a complaint regarding «illegal municipal projects». Read Mr. Charchalakis' statement:
«NO municipal project is «illegal»! Enough already—no more speculation and lies!"
In response to a recent article published on a local Kythira website, titled «Justice Investigates Complaint Regarding «Illegal Municipal Projects,»” I would like to clarify the following:
All of the unfounded allegations have been duly addressed through institutional channels, as early as last year, both before the competent authorities and within the Municipal Council by the responsible Deputy Mayor, Mr. Sougiannis, with a wealth of documents and evidence. The Municipality will do the same in this case regarding the recent complaint filed by a citizen, which, as it appears, «paradoxically» repeats the same allegations, which we hope will be signed and submitted under the complainant’s full name this time, so that we may take the necessary action against the slanderer, who slanders not only the elected officials but ALSO the Municipality’s employees who work tirelessly to carry out public works on our island.
The truth, which we consistently reiterate, is that there are NO illegal municipal projects and that the allegations in question are false, baseless, and fabricated to serve self-serving interests and petty local political agendas in the run-up to the upcoming municipal elections. Moreover, a criminal complaint has already been filed by the Municipal Authority with the District Attorney regarding the offenses of false accusation and slander, against Mr. ’Socrates Fatsas« (whose other details are unknown), who sent dozens of false accusations via email to nearly 20 public authorities, so that the Cybercrime Division can trace his digital footprints and determine his true identity, for further legal action. And then, there may be some surprises…
The Municipality’s response will be provided in a well-documented manner to the competent authorities, as has been the case to date in all instances involving the dozens of unfounded complaints filed against the Municipality (nearly 50 legal cases over the past 8–9 years), all of which HAVE BEEN DISMISSED, without receiving any corresponding media attention (I wonder why?), some of which were particularly serious (e.g., lawsuits regarding environmental degradation at the former landfill site, cases involving coastal areas, etc.). Our municipality has not been found liable in any of these dozens of cases, as they were all false and unsubstantiated.
Just as some had been eagerly awaiting a few months ago outside the Kythira Magistrates« Court—the mayor’s conviction regarding the port at Diakofti (when the port was built, the mayor was 17 years old!), and were left empty-handed—the same thing will happen now….
Finally, the attitude of certain individuals (even those in positions of authority) who turn a blind eye to blatant illegal activities by a private citizen on the island—activities that literally «jump out at you,» with the local community noting a highly peculiar «silence» from all sides… As the saying goes, «They not only owed us money, but they also took our ox!» Of course, the bigger the balloon gets, the easier it is to pop. And then, we’ll be back…»
