Gatherings for the Labour Day are underway. Trade unions, organisations, primary unions and Labour Centres are taking to the streets to honour the struggles of the past, with demands of the present such as wage and pension increases, collective agreements, public health and education.
Under the slogan «May Day is not a holiday, it is a strike», the General Confederation of Workers of Greece (GSEE) calls on all workers to participate dynamically in the nationwide strike and the Labour Day rallies.
Which roads are closed
It is noted that since early in the morning of May Day, traffic regulations are in force in the centre of Athens due to the gatherings of trade unions, unions, federations and workers' centres for the Labour Day.
At this time, traffic has been stopped on Vassilissis Sophia Avenue from the height of Sekeri Street, Vassilissis Amalias Avenue and Stadiou Street.

Labour Day: How the public transport will move
With work stoppages and 24-hour strikes, transport workers participate in May Day, honouring the struggles of the working class.
Buses and Trolleybuses
Buses and trolleybuses will run from 9:00 to 21:00 due to the workers' work stoppages (from the beginning of the shift until 9:00 and from 21:00 until the end of the shift).
Metro
Metro Lines 2 & 3 will operate from 9 am to 3 pm. During this period, Metro services to and from the Airport will run as normal.
At the same time ELAS closes Syntagma and University stations. Trains will pass through them without stopping.
Electric - Tram
The trains of Line 1 Metro ’Kifissia Piraeus« and Tram Line 1 will be immobilized throughout the day.
The ships are tied up in the ports
Ships will remain tied up today throughout the country due to the participation of the Panhellenic Seamen's Federation (PNO) in the nationwide - all-employer 24-hour strike declared by the GSEE, in all categories of ships, as part of the festivities for this year's May Day.
The mobilisation starts at 00:01 on Thursday and ends at 24:00 on the same day. The seafarers' unions are expected to hold strike meetings.
«The Panhellenic Maritime Federation, as the highest trade union body of all the seafarers of our country, pays tribute to all those who fought and many times gave their lives for the rights of seafarers and all workers everywhere,» says in a message on the occasion of tomorrow's celebration of the Labor Day, the general secretary of PNO, Manolis Tsikalakis.
It stresses that the seafarers' trade union body fights daily for all the problems of its colleagues, spearheading the existence, signing and renewal of collective bargaining agreements in all categories of ships, the defence of the collective bargaining process, the abolition of the laws on the reduced organic composition of ships, the protection of human life at sea.
