PRESS RELEASE: FREE KYTHIRA
KYTHIRA, October 11, 2023
THANK YOU – ASSESSMENT OF THE ELECTION RESULTS
We thank our fellow citizens—whether they voted or not—for their support of our party. We feel immense gratitude toward those who shared this journey with us: their ideas, their time, and their enthusiasm. Reflecting on the campaign period, we are proud to have seen that our message resonated with the hearts of free people. The election results confirmed that this was only the beginning of our effort.
We would like to congratulate the “outgoing” mayor, as well as the … display of political acumen by the New Democracy and SYRIZA local organizations. We hope that the former will lead the municipality with full awareness of what his narrow victory means under the electoral system, and that the official opposition will recognize the contradictions that party discipline creates in our small community.
Finally, we hope that all elected officials will adopt our core policy position on PLANNING, based on the political decisions of the people of Kythira regarding Kythira.
POLICY STATEMENT OF THE COALITION FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS
Upon assuming our duties, we will submit to the Board of Directors PROPOSALS FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION BY THE NEW MUNICIPAL ADMINISTRATION, in detail, based on what we have outlined in our policy pillars. In summary:
- PILLAR 2 – Establishment of a Local Development Agency in Kythira
- PILLAR 3 – Implementation of a Wildfire Protection Plan
- PILLAR 4 – Activation of the Fixed Advance Payment to Communities
- PILLAR 6 – Implementation of the Tourism Master Plan
- PILLAR 7 – Home Assistance Program
COMMUNICATION TO THE CURRENT MUNICIPAL AUTHORITIES REGARDING SPECIFIC ISSUES
Before the new Board of Directors takes office, we request that the following be made public:
- the technical and financial aspects of the Southern Kythira Sewer System project.
- the technical and financial aspects of the desalination project.
- The actions taken so far regarding the River's ecosystem.
- The actions taken so far regarding the sewer system and the wastewater treatment plant in Agia Pelagia.
- the actions taken so far to improve the District Network.
- the steps taken so far to legalize the ports.
A MESSAGE TO FREE CITIZENS
- We are establishing a communication network with all communities so that all requests reach the Board of Directors through our coalition. A list containing the email addresses and phone numbers of local representatives responsible for communicating with the European Parliament will be posted in all municipal communities.
- Throughout the winter, we will be holding a series of open discussions in the municipal communities. As we stated during our pre-election visits, we will identify and prioritize the needs of each community.
- We are organizing a series of January Public Assemblies in the three municipal communities where our coalition’s candidates were elected as mayors. Following the swearing-in ceremony for our coalition’s elected officials, we will coordinate efforts to mobilize citizens with the aim of advancing democratic demands.
Thank you, and stay tuned.
