On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Asia Minor Catastrophe and in the framework of the programme «Culture is Athens», the Train-Theatre the Train in Rouf co-organizes with the Municipality of Athens through the Culture, Sports and Youth Organization of the Municipality of Athens (OPANDA) the multi-interactive art exhibition «EC-Shrines», which is presented in collaboration with Athens School of Fine Arts (Sculpture Workshop A and Painting Workshop III) and the coordination of the Cultural Office of the Mayor of Athens.
The interactive exhibition «EC-Shrines» is a visual, choreographic and musical collaboration of artists from the fields of Visual Arts, Contemporary Dance and Music.
Drawing inspiration from the railway character of the Train in Rouf, seventeen visual artists expand the dialogue opened by the multidimensional action «EC-Shrines». They address concepts that concern contemporary societies such as migration, movement, refugeeism, roots, travel, flight, return, solidarity, freedom, etc. They connect the uprooting and the wave of refugees of the Greeks of Asia Minor with the corresponding current global events in a dramatic similarity in terms of human suffering, the dead ends and the urgent need for modern societies to seek solutions with a focus on Man and the hope for «rebirth».
During the first four days of the exhibition (7, 8, 9 and 10 July) and alongside the works exhibited in the open-air space of the Platform, visitors will have the opportunity to watch choreographic and musical «conversations» with works exhibited in the historic carriages of the Train-Theatre, thus creating a three-dimensional dialogue. The themes of the exhibition and the Train itself become the occasion for three dancers and a musician to join together in a live encounter with the artworks.
