With every solemnity were held on Sunday 18 January 2026 the opening of the new Municipal Sports Facilities in Kythera River, despite the adverse weather conditions on the island. The strong winds and high Beaufort winds did not suspend the planned ceremony, which was held normally in the presence of representatives of the local government, institutions and citizens.
The consecration of the facilities was performed by Seraphim of Kythira, accompanied by priests of the Metropolis. The ceremony was attended by, among others, the Mayor of Kythera Eustratios Charhalakis, the President of the Municipal Council, deputy mayors, representatives of local institutions and residents of the island.
The project includes modern infrastructure, such as fencing, lighting system, fire safety facilities, changing rooms, offices, sanitary facilities and stands for athletes and spectators. The facilities have been designed to meet the safety and functionality requirements for the conduct of sports activities and events.
As mentioned, the new sports facilities meet the specifications of the General Secretariat of Sports and the SEGAS, aiming to strengthen the island's sports infrastructure and create suitable sports conditions for the youth and sports clubs of Kythera.
The ceremony was held at the official invitation of the Mayor of Kythera and marks the completion of a project that is part of the broader planning of the Municipality for the improvement of municipal infrastructure.
