On Tuesday, Mayor Efstratios Charchalakis and the deputy mayor in charge—who is also a certified volunteer fire chief– Yiannis Katsanevakis visited the sites where work is being carried out, accompanied by local community leaders who pointed out the critical areas.
The following is the statement by the mayor of Kythira:
«I visited, along with the deputy mayor in charge and certified volunteer fire chief Yiannis Katsanevakis, all the locations where large firebreaks are being cleared to protect thesettlements that were not affected by the July fire. The clearing is being carried out by specialized Army crews in accordance with the government’s relevant commitment and at my request. The locations were identified by the local mayors.».
