Earthquake of magnitude 2.2 Richter It was recorded today, December 17, 2024, on 10:57 p.m. (GMT), focusing on 8.6 kilometers east of Kythira, according to the Geophysics Laboratory at the University of Athens.
The depth of field is estimated at 10 kilometers, which classifies the earthquake as a shallow one. The tremor was very mild, and there are no concerns about damage or injuries in the area.
The seismic activity was imperceptible to most residents; however, those near the epicenter may have felt it as a slight tremor and heard its rumbling. The Kythira region periodically records similar microseismic tremors, as it is located in an active tectonic zone.
