Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s call in Chalki for energy communities commented Dynamo Kythira, wondering whether his position contradicts the licensing requirements for industrial wind power stations on the island or if it is simply a communication practice.
Please note that the energy community planning in Kythera relates to the network medium voltage of the island and, essentially, local consumption, while the industrial wind farms that have been licensed in Kythira are intended for electricity transmission via a new high-voltage grid and an interconnection with ADMIE on the opposite coast of the Peloponnese. Therefore, this is two different energy policies on the island.
It is also worth noting that the «front-loaded» shift in the energy mix of the country, with an emphasis on large industrial wind farms goes beyond local needs and is part of the the government's national policy for full de-lignification in the coming years.

Between 47.00 and 48.00, the Prime Minister calls on all island municipalities to follow suit the example of Halki and to create energy communities and join the GR-ECO ISLANDS initiative, assuring them that they would receive government support.
For several months now, Kythira has been following this path, closely mirroring the example set by Halki, with the participation of the municipality and the Local Property Authority in a nonprofit energy community focused on photovoltaics and virtual energy offsetting for the purpose of Energy production in Kythira, for Kythira.
We are also including the RAE map showing the data available so far permits for industrial wind farms on the island that, if they settle there, they will turn it into a wind farm a power plant with a capacity 90 times the island's energy needs.
