The biggest air sports event in recent years is taking place in Kythira, at the state-run airport. According to the Hellenic Air Sports Federation, this is the first time such a major air sports event has been held at a state-run airport.
The packed schedule of events includes, among other things, demonstration flights with audience participation. You can see one of these flights in the video, featuring the six-seater «Zouzou» aircraft piloted by Nikos Paterakis, who took us on a flight over Kythira.

What Are Addiction Flights?
As described by the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association of Greece Introductory flight (formerly known as «the baptism of the air») or Introductory Flight (Introductory Flight) refers to any flight conducted for a fee or other consideration, consisting of a short aerial route, conducted by an approved training organization or by an organization established for the purpose of promoting air sports (flying club) or recreational aviation with the aim of attracting new trainees or new members.
Flights to build up a habit must:
- They must begin and end at the same airport or the same airfield
- They must always be conducted under VFR conditions during the day
- They must be supervised by a person designated by the organization that operates the flights and who is responsible for flight safety
- They must be conducted in accordance with existing flight rules
It is therefore clear that introductory flights can be organized today, with the costs covered by the participants. The benefit will be twofold. On the one hand, people will come to the airport and get a firsthand look at light aircraft. And on the other hand, pilots will be able to log flight hours at a lower cost.
